Young Women in Harmony teaches emerging voices the skills, joy and rewards of performing and singing
four-part harmony, barbershop style.
Young Women in Harmony delivers both musical excellence and education while giving young women a taste of show business.
This program provides educational tools to teach young women singers the joy of performing this American vocal music art form.
Young women (age 25 and under) are encouraged to join choruses and quartets. At the fall and winter regional meetings,
there is often an opportunity for young women to rehearse and perform for the membership at large. Also, YWIH quartets
are eligible to attend the International Education Symposium in July and compete against other young quartets from around
the world.

Sweet Adelines International YWIH
Sweet Adelines
International will be hosting an International Young Women in Harmony Festival next summer in St. Louis as part of our IES Global Central session at the Millennium Hotel. The festival
will take place starting on Friday afternoon, July 16, 2010 and all day on Saturday, July 17, 2010. Sandi Wright, international faculty, judge, director of St. Louis Harmony Chorus and Past International Quartet Champion with Ambiance (1986) and Tetrachords (1978) will be the clinician. In addition to rehearsals, students will also have a class
called "Barbershop Basics" which will include the basics of barbershop style and an introduction to the history
of barbershop harmony. The festival will culminate with a performance on Saturday night for all
of the IES Global Central attendees. Festival
participants do not have to be members of Sweet Adelines International and participation is open to all young women aged 25
and under. Educators and Youth in Harmony organizers are invited to register as auditors. The fee to participate
is $100 (unless the students/observers register for the entire IES Global Central seminar, then participation is included!)
and it includes music, learning media as well as and meals on Friday evening and all day Saturday. Travel
and lodging are not included in this fee. Negotiated rates at the Millennium Hotel are available (participants under
18 must be chaperoned by a parent/guardian). For more information, please stay tuned to our IES Global page on our web site or contact the Education Department at International Headquarters: education@sweetadelineintl.org.
